Chapter 6
Luna
From my table at The Old Haunt, I watch as Belle and the other children laugh while making crafts for the upcoming annual Halloween party. Itâs obvious they love her and she feels the same way. I feel Alaric's hand on my shoulder as he hands me a glass of water before sitting down. "How are you?" He asks before kissing my neck, not caring that weâre in public.
"I'm great," I answer, meaning it. Apparently liking that, his lips once more find my skin. "Control yourself, Alaric," I whisper, not really wanting him to.
"I don't think I can around you," he growls, causing me to shiver with anticipation. Itâs been a few days since Alaric and I first made love. My life, which was once so full of heartache after losing Belle, is now overflowing with love and happiness. Belle, Alaric, and I are a family.
"Try," I urge. "You said Hades is skittish and I don't want to risk freaking him out."
"You wouldn't think it if you saw him," he mutters as Nalla joins us. She's wearing a yellow dress that hugs her curves and looks fantastic against her dark chocolate skin.
"Mind if I sit in? I want to help." Alaric instantly shoots her down, telling her no way. She smiles at his protectiveness all while ignoring it. "I wasn't asking, ass."
Stepping in, I say, "Iâd appreciate it, Nalla."
Not done being the big brother, he continues to protest, stating, "It's dangerous." Iâve seen enough of her magic to know she can handle herself and thatâs exactly what I say. Before we can go any further, Hades comes in, eyes scanning the area though the place is officially closed for the day. He has long hair, a thick beard, and eyes as dark as night. And heâs huge. Honestly, I can easily see how people would be leery of him if they donât know already know heâs a good guy. After Hades settles in, Alaric thanks him for coming. âIâm not sure if youâve met my sister, Nalla, before. She runs Voodoo Hoodoo.â Hades gives a nod then gets right to the point.
"You said it was urgent," he reminds Alaric as his gaze shifts to me.
"I'm Luna, Belle's mother," I explain, his eyes widening a bit. "Belle told me you were like her."
He tenses, wanting to know, "How did she tell you that?"
"She can talk now,â Alaric chimes in. âThere was a shield spell to prevent someone from locating her and she connected it to her speech."
"So, she's one of his experiments." Itâs not really a question, but I act as if it is.
"Yes," I try not to shout. "You were, too?"
He looks uncomfortable as he corrects me. "Not really. He created me."
"What does that mean?" Alaric asks.
"I was a test tube baby that he raised. He ran all kinds of tests and experiments on me, all in the name of science." The last word is said sarcastically, letting us know how Hades feels about that. âSick fucker.â
"How did you escape?" Nalla wants to know.
